What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Evaluation Report from November 2025. ERO found leaders and teachers now support student wellbeing in clear, consistent ways, and the school’s five pillars give students a balanced experience in and beyond the classroom.

Almost all students gain NCEA Level 2, most gain Level 3 and the large majority gain University Entrance, and the large majority of Year 11 students pass their IGCSE examinations, although boys and Māori students do less well at NCEA Level 3 and University Entrance.

ERO also pointed to stable governance, well-resourced teaching with high expectations, good support for students with learning needs, and strong links between the school and its boarding houses.

ERO’s next steps are clearer schoolwide reporting of student outcomes to the board, tracking trends over time to judge what is working, helping students lead their own learning and work together, building the school’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi into planning and teaching, and an attendance plan to lift regular attendance, which is close to the government target.

Enrolling

The school has a home zone under its Ministry-approved enrolment scheme. Its enrolment page says day-student applications go into a ballot using the scheme’s priority order, and the scheme and ballot process are published on the school’s Day Student page. Applications are made online, and families are invited to an interview with the headmaster or a delegate before any offer.

Boarding applications follow the same online application and interview, then an offer that is confirmed with a boarding deposit. The school publishes its fees on its fees page.
