What ERO found

The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a School Report from May 2026. ERO found that improvements are needed so all students are engaged, make enough progress and achieve well.

Because the school did not have valid assessment information, ERO could not confirm how students are doing in reading, writing or maths, or what difference the school’s work on writing had made. Fewer than half of students attend regularly and chronic absence is not yet falling, although the school has a suitable attendance plan.

ERO had concerns about the quality of education and recommended that the Secretary for Education consider a formal intervention to bring in specialist help with the maths curriculum and assessment practice.

On the positive side, ERO noted students who show the school’s shared values, a board that puts significant resources into students’ diverse needs, play-based learning that gives students choice, and te ao Māori reflected in daily school life.

ERO’s key priorities are to lift attendance toward the government target, introduce a schoolwide standardised writing assessment with regular moderation so reports to the board, parents and whānau are accurate, set achievement targets and gather evidence of what is working, and bring in a structured maths programme supported by teacher professional learning. ERO also found the school needs to improve how it reports to parents and whānau on their child’s learning.
